8 Wired’s Tour des Flandres spent the better part of three years ageing in red wine foeders (a traditional type of very large wine barrel). The malts and ageing have united to form a beer that pours rich and inviting burgundy. A mosaic of lightly sweet and quietly tart notes rise from the glass — prunes, redcurrants, sultanas, and winter spices. The palate builds on this, with the addition of wonderfully complex acetic tartness and sweet nutty malts. With each subsequent sip the acetic flavours become smoother, more fruity, and delightfully intricate. The palate is left with light, sweet malts, dry tannic spices, dark fruit, and aged red wine.
