This is described on the can as a New Zealand Pils, and yes, it has New Zealand hops, but it doesn’t feel like so many other Kiwi-style pilsners of recent time. To start it finishes properly bitter and dry, rather edging towards an off-sweet citrus. But it’s also not quite a classic Czech pilsner … it’s uniquely it’s own thing. A decent whack of Riwaka hops and some fruity Amarillo are given an X-factor lift by the use of the possibly unsung Palisade hop. It’s cliche to say “cut grass” but this hop delivers those characters, even tending towards freshly-mown hay. The combination is magic and this is tight, powerful thirst-qunching banger of a beer.
