Behemoth Brewing
Behemoth was founded in 2013 by Andrew Childs, who graduated from home brewing and left a career as a lawyer to brew.
The brewery has grown strong on the back of almost weekly releases, having released more than 500 unique beers in less than 10 years. They are best known for the hazies, having been a trend-setter for that style with their Lid Ripper Hazy IPA.
The brewery has undertaken three capital raises — in 2019, 2020 and 2022 — the first one allowing them to build their own brewpub, Churly’s, at the top of Dominion Road in Auckland. They’ve used further capital to open other venues and expand their brewing capacity.
The brand is represented by Churly, a cartoon character that graced their flagship Chur Pale Ale and has since evolved into a cypher for movie stars, politicians, musicians and sportspeople who grace the labels of the popular-culture driven brewery.
