Urbanaut are one of the most interesting Auckland breweries in the business and on recent visit to their Kingsland taproom I asked the barman Floyd for his recommendation and he suggested the Toasted Marshmallow Hazy IPA, which I was a little bit skeptical about because I didn’t think marshmallow and beer would make a good partnership but I trusted Floyd and that paid off as the beer was thiccc and the marshmallow flavours had mellowed out the bitterness from the hops which I personally like and the marshmallow flavour also gives the beer an extra shade of haze, which tricks the mind into thinking that it’s a hazy double IPA, but in fact it is just a humble 5.8% ABV which means that you can drink a couple of pints quite happily.
Tasting notes: A campfire, white and pink marshmallows, icing sugar and some mango puree.
