The polar opposite of hazy on the India Pale spectrum, the India Pale Lager is a rare and frequently excellent style that I’m always on the hunt for. Wandering IPL (6 per cent ABV) from Bach Brewing brings together a huge US/NZ medley of Mosaic, Citra, Idaho 7, Motueka and Nectaron hops. Bright and sharp on the nose, with pineapple and nectarine, zingy lemon/lime citrus and gentle pine. The beautifully ripe citrus and cooling pine race over the smooth and dry malt base to create a character that’s both satisfyingly fruity and deeply quenching, finishing short, bitter and incredibly clean. If hazy IPA is a fruit bomb, this is a fruit laser beam.
