mcLeod’s 802 #39
The 39th edition of 802 from McLeod’s brewery is a ripper. This 6.8% abv unfiltered IPA is dosed up on Talus and Amarillo in the hop department throwing out plenty of grapefruit and herby notes on a sweet caramel backbone, such a great series from a great brewery!
Rhyme X Reason Yeehaw Habanero Saison
Yeehaw a 4.9% abv habanero saison from Wanaka locals Rhyme & Reason. Hopped up on Pacifica/Cascade/Saaz you can expect some mild yeasty funk with soft citrus and subtle banana with a warming habanero feel, crispy az!
Shining Peak Brett Saison
Latest hit out from Shining Peak in the ‘Naki, is a 6.2% abv oak barrel-aged Saison, featuring a mixed fermentation culture of brettanomyces and saccharomyces with Pacific Jade and aged Nelson Sauvin hops. lots going on in a subtle way; there’s some funk alongside citrus/peach/grape and cider-type vibe with a sherberty carbonation and drying finish. Highly recommend!
Sprig + Fern Coned Up Pils
Sprig + Fern do great pilsner amongst other things. Coned Up Pils, a 5% abv Motueka-hopped brew, is another great example of this, with loads of lemon/lime/grapefruit/ notes with a weedy, resiny bitterness. Another summer regular — smashable!!
Littel Thief vs Damaged Goods Round The World IPA
Ohakune outfit Little Thief vs Damaged Goods have smashed out a beauty of an IPA, big flavour on a lower 5.5% abv notes of orange/mandarin an resiny pine sit on a caramel malt backbone. Nice example of a IPA and a regular fridge filler.
Beer Baroness Sunshine & Spaceships
Out on the perimeter with Beer Baroness Sunshine & Spaceships, a Strata-hopped hazy orbiting at 6.4% abv with fellow crew of Galaxy/Mosiac/Citra providing an intergalactic sensory palate ride of juicy pineapple/grapefruit/peach/passionfruit and a weedy vibe, super soft creamy mouthfeel offset by a prickly bitterness — very well balanced great summer drop!
8 Wired Ernest
Ernest is a nod to the great Hemingway. This 5.2% abv daiquiri-inspired sour, has hammocks and sun written all over it. Super-refreshing crisp mouthfeel of grapefruit and lime tartness is offset by an almond creaminess. Thirst-quenching and delicious.
