Cold’ is one of the newest styles of the now cosmically nebulous IPA category, and aside from cool fermentation temperatures, an official method of production is yet to be fully codified.  This makes it an especially exciting prospect for brewers and drinkers, a chance to probe the unknowns of the IPA frontier and taste it respectively. With New Zealand and American hops in play, the nose on this new release from Boneface, The Wolf Bites Back Triple Cold IPA, is a complex mix of sharp citrus and softer tropicals, with pungent rosewater and light malt sweetness.  As much as the palate is weighty at 9.5%, the malt character is nimble, darting behind the citrus notes and hiding beneath the mounting bitterness that gathers in the long, ever so slightly oily finish.  Considering the strength, the drinkability factor is dangerously high.  You might not even realise you’ve been bitten until the next morning…
