New Plymouth’s Three Sisters is a brewery on the rise, winning champion small brewery at the 2022 NZ Beer Awards, before this year debuting on the New World Beer & Cider Awards Top 30 with their German-style dark lager Rumours in the Dark.
Dark chocolate and toasted coconut come together to invoke an aroma strikingly reminiscent of a Choc-Bar icecream, along with more subtle notes of roasted malt and fresh pumpernickel. The palate is altogether sterner. Dark roasted coffee and burned malt temper the rich malt, while a significant hop character freshens the long finish.
This is lager built for winter and built for food, so don’t drink it too cold (a cool 8C is perfect) and get it in front of some rich and salty meat dishes.
