The latest offering in Sawmill’s occasional vintage ale series has a pleasant Belgian ale vibe. It’s billed as a saison, but rather than the classic aroma of oranges, lemons and peppers, it has a sweet, yeasty aroma with honey and maybe raisins. There’s a medium dry and fruity taste with some spicy hops coming through. The finish is spritzy with a slight sour note, but it has an overall malty fatness that carries the big hit – 8 per cent – along with some apricot or marmalade. A great cheese beer.
