This double IPA is brewed right in the middle of Central Otago wine country and fermented in ex-pinot noir barriques. The pinot wood is immediately apparent on the nose along with dried fruit, nuts and a wealth of yeast driven aromas. The palate is dominantly malty, with some hop fruitiness and a huge bitterness that grows in the finish. It’s very different from the clean and super-juicy IPA’s of today, and some of the more rustic flavours here won’t be to everyone’s taste, but as a style of beer that really doesn’t exist today it’s worth checking out.
