Eddyline have summer in a glass with their 5% Weizen Shine Hefeweizen. All the usual suspects here: banana, clove, lemon & straw, alongside hints of bubblegum funk, all playing atop of a gentle carb, juicy mouthfeel and drying finish. Absolute pleasure to drink.
Mount Brewing Fresh Set APA
Perennial faves Citra & Mosaic deliver an absolute summer crusha with Mount Brewing Co Fresh Set, a 5% APA. A lithe body yet packed full of resiny pine with pops of blueberry and zesty citrus on a slick mouthfeel and sweet malt bill deliver an excellent example of the style.
Epic Jira Pilsner
Epic Beers doing epic brews with their new sud tube Jira, a 5.9% Pilsner hopped with Riwaka Citra & Pacific Jade. Peppery cracker notes lead into zingy lemon-lime with an undercurrent of passionfruit. Mouthfeel is crisp with a snappy green bitterness before departing with a drying finish.
Boneface Brewing Deadlift Double IPA
Deadlift from Upper Hutt locals Boneface is a great bi-curl for the hopheads, featuring Citra Rakau & Nelson in the hop department. Apricot, pear, melon & gooseberry doing the heavy lifts here, with additional support from a sweet malt bill, a bristly bitterness and an oily piney finish. Ol skool DIPA done right.
Renaissance West Coast Pilsner
Congrats to Renaissance Brewing celebrating 20 years in the game. A 5.9% West Coast Pilsner is a highlight of their new brews. Clean, crisp with pops of pine over citrus-laden zest, throw in a snappy mouthfeel and you have one crackin’ brew.
Behemoth Prince of Darkness Black IPA
The king of beer styles IMO meets the Prince of Darkness in this 6.66% Black IPA from 09 locals Behemoth. I love Black IPA — it encompasses everything in a brew: rich, dark chocolate notes meets roasty, toasty, nutty malts meets resiny pine & zesty citrus also, on this occasion pineapple. Beer of the year contender; total package.
Heyday Riesling & Riwaka Pilsner
Vine meets bine in this 5% Riesling & Riwaka Pilsner from Welly outfit Heyday Beer Co. Stunning clarity on the pour leads into crispy, grapey, passionfruit. Mouthfeel is prickly with an oily coating. A continuous effervescent carb encompasses a transcendent example of Riwaka and Pilsner.
Parrotdog Limited Release 33 Hazy IPA
Limited Edition #33 from Welly legends Parrotdog, this outing a 7% haze lord featuring Galaxy Cryo Citra & Cryo Mosaic. Juiced up plump mouthfeel with notes of grapefruit blueberry and lime are offset by a rounded bitterness a prickly carb all atop of a lean nutty malt bill, delicious dangerously quaffable.
