Gladfield Malt
The Michaels are a fifth-generation family of barley growers in the heart of the Canterbury Plains. In 2004, Doug and Gabi Michael established Gladfield Malts, a 100% family-owned maltings. A company committed to producing high-quality, hand-crafted, all-natural, malts for the World’s beer, whisky and homebrews.
Their grains are grown in the heart of New Zealand’s best arable farmland. A region renowned for its long stretches of stony, loam soil plains, with just the right mix of sunshine and rainfall for bumper harvests.
Gladfield Malts is a 500-acre farm near Dunsandel, about 41km south of Christchurch city. They grow grains with another 150 contracted growers and employ 10 full-time staff.
Six different grain varieties are carefully tended and harvested at peak quality, to produce 50+types of malted grains for domestic and export markets.
